Her approach is relational and collaborative, meeting clients where they are and supporting them in becoming more aware of their experiences, strengths, and inner resources. Integrating a wide range of creative modalities, including art, sand, LEGO, and play, Natalie works within a trauma-informed and developmentally sensitive framework to create meaningful therapeutic change.

As the founder of Art Play Psychotherapy, Natalie also designs and facilitates workshops and trainings for seniors, professionals, educators, and organisations. In addition to her clinical work, she lectures in the field of art therapy and education, sharing her expertise with emerging practitioners. Xu Ning is a registered art therapist with the Australian, New Zealand and Asian Creative Arts Therapies Association (ANZACATA). She has a background in psychology and a deep commitment to helping adults and older adults reconnect with themselves through creativity and compassion. She believes that therapy is a space to rediscover one’s capacity for resilience, peace, and joy, even amid seasons of change and loss.

Her early work as a research assistant and special needs educator laid the foundation for her strengths-based, person-centered approach. During her art therapy training, she completed clinical placements at a child protection agency and a halfway house for adults recovering from substance use, shaping her trauma-informed and relational practice.

Currently, Xu Ning divides her time between private practice and a community hospital, where she supports patients in rehabilitation and palliative care. Her work focuses on helping adults and older adults process emotional pain, rebuild meaning, and strengthen their sense of safety in both body and mind. She integrates somatic and attachment-based principles, using artmaking as a way to foster regulation, self-compassion, and connection.

Known for her gentle and grounded presence, Xu Ning creates a calm and attuned space for clients to reflect, express, and heal at their own pace. Her approach honours each person’s story and the quiet strength that can emerge through creative and mindful engagement.

Val Wai

Art Psychotherapist (Trainee)

MA Art Therapy (Ongoing)
BA (Hons) Communication Design (First-Class Honours)

Val is currently art therapy practitioner and final-year Master’s candidate at LASALLE College of the Arts, University of the Arts Singapore (UAS). Her clinical experience includes working with children and adolescents with developmental needs and chronic illnesses across hospital, residential, and educational settings.

Val views art therapy as an in-between space for play and development, where creative processes become a gentle pathway for children and youths to explore emotions and experiences that may be difficult to express in words. She supports clients in developing emotional regulation, strengthening a sense of safety, and connecting more deeply with their inner worlds through embodied art-making and creative play.

Her early experiences volunteering as a teacher with children with special needs shaped her strengths-based and person-centred approach, grounded in respect for each individual’s unique way of experiencing and making sense of the world. Alongside her clinical practice in private and community settings, Val facilitates art therapy-informed workshops and continues to develop her artistic practice. Through her creative work, she hopes to cultivate greater awareness and understanding of art therapy among young people and the wider community.
